HYDROFORUM 2023 was held on October 25-27 in the city of Wrocław (Poland).
The event was organized by the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IMP-PAN) and has included the XII Polish Hydropower Conference. The event was attended by 116 people representing 50 institutions, enterprises and NGOs, related to the hydropower sector, mainly from Poland.
10 conference sessions and 35 papers were presented. The central point of the first day meeting was the HYDROFORUM Debate entitled “Pumped-storage power generation and its dilemmas”.
On the second day, two sessions were dedicated to the LIFE NEXUS Project Symposium, focus on the recovery of hydraulic energy lost in urban and industrial water cycles. An important part of the conference programme was sessions on small hydropower technologies and operational issues, including energy and diagnostic tests of hydraulic machines as well as technologies for the protection and regeneration of hydroelectric power plant equipment.
Project partners delivered two oral lectures during these dedicated sessions:
On one hand, Prof. Petras Punys from ASU, presented the assessment of hydropower potential in wastewater systems that has been carried out in 8 locations located in cities of Lithuania, which are followers of LIFE NEXUS Project.
On the other hand, Prof. Janusz Steller from IMP-PAN spoke about energy recovery technologies in hydraulic installations. Attention focused on the selection of PaT, especially when the characteristics in the movement of the turbine are not available. The abstracts have been published in the Hydroforum 2023 Conference Book of Abstracts (in English) and will be also published in the Energetyka Wodna magazine in 2024.
